Es trained in Literature at Bristol University, Art at Central St Martins, and Stage Design at Motley

She designs opera for the Royal Opera House, ENO and European houses including La Scala, Barcelona and Vienna and pop concerts for Kanye West, Jay Z, Lady Gaga, Muse, Petshopboys and Take That.

She has designed drama for RSC, National Theatre, Royal Court, Almeida and Theatre de Complicite, dance for Russell Maliphant and Rambert,  and the Closing Ceremony for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Awards include TPi Stage Designer of the Years 2010, 2011 and 2012, RED Creative Woman of the Year 2011, Olivier Award 2006, TMA Award 1998 and the Linbury Prize for Stage Design in1996.

Current projects include: Kasper Holten’s Don Giovanni for the Royal Opera House, Julie Taymor’s A Midsummer Nights Dream for TFANA New York, Rupert Goold’s American Psycho at the Almeida, The Power of Illusion for Massive Attack, Adam Curtis and Felix Barrett at Manchester International Festival and a world arena tour for Kanye West.
